Our Group

Our group consists of four individuals: Ryan Howard, Max Levene, Georgina 'Didi' Finlay and Gabriella Kingsley. (The blog links are located on the right). We all developed the short story which we then called 'Smile', and then wrote a script. You can view all of our pre-production, production and post-production once they have been edited into our blogs.

Favourite Directors

Favourite directors:

Charlie Chaplin - Modern Times, City Lights, The Gold Rush, The Circus
Tim Burton - Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sweeney Todd
John Lasseter - Chief Animator at Pixar Studios - Toy Story
Orson Welles - Citizen Kane
Christopher Nolan - Batman: The Dark Knight
Charlie Chaplin
- Charlie Chaplin is one of my favourite film directors because at the time he was making his films, the technologies that we use now had not been invented then. This meant that he had to work with what he had available. Up until his film 'Modern Times' (1936), which is also my favourite Chaplin film, all of his were silent. Modern Times was also the first time the audience heard his voice in a film. This is because the character from the film, The Little Tramp, he had never been in a film where there was speech because it had not been invented yet, and because of this Chaplin did not want to ruin the character by making him speak. At the end of Modern Times is when we first here the tramp's character's voice, singing a song as a waiter.
Another reason why I admire Charlie Chaplin, is because not only did he direct his films, he also starred in them and wrote them, showing off his comedy skills. On top of writing, directing and acting, he also composed the music for most of his films. It was Modern Times when the instrumental of 'Smile' was first heard.

Tim Burton
- What I like about Tim Burton, is that all of his films are not normal. By 'not being normal', I mean they are nothing like reality. Tim Burton is my favourite director for many reasons. Firstly, I have grew up watching Nightmare Before Christmas, and Edward Scissorhands. Another reason is that Burton uses both real film, and also animation, which he started of doing at Disney. Another thing which I greatly admirer of Tim Burton is his use of collaborations, having continuously worked with actor Johnny Depp and music composer Danny Elfman. Films which Tim Burton has directed include Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride and Alice in Wonderland. He has also produced The Nightmare Before Christmas, which he also wrote. That film was directed by Henry Selick

(From Picture -2. While Danny Elfman is well known for composing music for most of Tim Burton's movies, he is credited in the above table for those movies in which he starred/sang in.)

John Lasseter
- an American animator, director and the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. He is also currently the Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering.
Having been an animator at Disney Studios, he was soon to become the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Studios. Since becoming one of the biggest names in the animation world, he has created great films such as Toy Story, Cars and A Bug's Life

Christopher Nolan
- is a British-American film director, writer and producer. The films he has directed or produced which I like include Batman: The Dark Knight and Inception. What I like about his directing is that he manages to direct futuristic/non-real life films in such a good way, that it makes the viewers and audiences more involved with the characters, such as the Joker in Batman.
